Dinner For Two at “Da Antonietta”

In today’s post I’m going to talk about one of my favorite seafood restaurant, in one of the major touristic places in Maremma. Today’s restaurant is “Da Antonietta” at Castiglione della Pescaia.

Castiglione della Pescaia is a special place in Tuscany. The most attractive thing is of course the clear sea (from many years  the Maremma’s beach gained the “Blue Flag” a special achievement for the most clear seas in Europe) but the old town as well, in typical medieval style, is another good reason for discover Castiglione della Pescaia. If you plan to visit the Maremma, in every season, you should visit Catiglione della Pescaia and have a night walk in the main street of the town and in the seafront. The seafront is really special in the summer nights: from one side you have bars, restaurants and little amazing terrace houses, and from the other side you have a lot of beach resorts which offer every night dinners and disco parties on the beach. Along the port you can see a lot of boats (some of that are really amazing) and you can also see a lot of tiny and huge fish boats. Along the port you can also find an huge amount of little fish shops where you can buy fresh fishes each day.

If you love seafood, you want to taste a characteristic maremma’s seafood restaurant and you are close to Castiglione della Pescaia,  you should try “Da Antonietta” at 24th of Via Colombo (Da Antonietta’s address on the map).

Da Antonietta is an historic restaurant in Castiglione della Pescaia and it begun with Antonietta who prepared her Da Antonietta Restaurantfamous anchovies with pesto, the caciucco soup and fried fish for the fishermen. Antonietta is no longer there, but her sons and grandsons continue her traditions and manage the restaurant.

The restaurant’s atmosphere is relaxed and familiar, it is not too much elegant or ceremonial, and you can Candlechoose to eat inside the restaurant or under the cute veranda with port view.

One of the first people you see when you arrive at the restaurant is Fabrizio, a very funny guy, who manages the restaurant and goes fishing the most fresh fish for his guests as well.

I was at “Da Antonietta”a couple of week ago, and in that occasion, as usual I eat a lot, I eat well and I didn’t spent so much! I love this easy and familiar restaurant, the people, the food, the atmosphere, and I suggest to a lot of person to try it. Everyone love it!

This is what me and my husband eat in our dinner

We start with two appetizers: for me one “Zuppa dell’Isolano” (Isalnd’s soup) and for my husband “Cozze alla Castiglionese” (Castiglione’s Mussels). My soup was served in a terracotta dish, and it was composed by a lot of different fishes like, mussels, clams, shrimps, scampi, tiny octopus and squid in tomatoes’ soup.  The “cozze alla Castiglionese” were mussels filled over an amazing gravy.

We skipped the pasta and we chose mixed grill of shrimps and scampi fished the same day (as you can see the Grigliata di scampi e gamberiportions  were generous) and for side dish we chose delicious Tomatoes cooked on the oven.

Like usual we also ordered some fried fishes (showed in the pic).

For dessert I took a Catalana’s cream and my husband a Sorbet.Crema Catalana

In my opinion all dishes proposed are absolutely delicious, and you could have also a big choice of special dishes each day. The menu includes also some meat dishes, but honestly I never eat it, I ever choose Da Antonietta for its special seafood.

WineThe wine selection is pretty good as well, for example we chose a Gewürztraminer (white wine).

If you reserve at least one day in advance, you can also ask for “sea’s crudité” (not cooked fish super fresh). We reserved too late and for this reason we could not eat crudité.

If you are looking for a very chic restaurant with waitress in uniform and sophisticated location, maybe “Da Antonietta” is not the right restaurant for you…. If you are looking for amazing seafood dishes, in a familiar and relaxed place, with an exceptional price/quality relationship, this is the right place for you!

All you should do is to plan your day in Castiglione della Pescaia! I suggest to spend the day in one of the amazing available beaches, to continue with a walk in the old town, to have a dinner at Da Antonietta and to spend your night at one of the beach party on the seafront. At last you can also taste an amazing ice cream in the main street of the town.

To park in Castiglione della Pescaia is not really easy! My suggestion is to park in the big space on the right of “ponte Giorgini” (you should pay for it). Otherwise if you can walk a little bit you can figure out a big parking space (and it is free), on the same street, ahead.
