Eating Seafood at Midtown: Cajun Sea

Hello Friends!

In today’s post I’m going to bring you with me in Midtown for eating seafood close to the Empire State Building!midtown map

One of the things that surprises me every days is the difference for the food’s price in Italy and here in New York city, at least for some kind of food and in Manhattan. Let me show you an example, some foods that are super cheap in Italy, here in New York city are so expensive, in Manhattan you should pay for a quite good mozzarella cheese almost $ 9.00, for some vegetable like tomatoes more than $ 5.00/pound ( a pound is less than 500 gr). But luckily it is true the vice versa and some foods that are considered “luxury food” in Italy, here are quite cheap like lobster, crab and seafood in general.

Please consider that I talk about Manhattan, of course in other New York’s neighborhoods the prices are different.

oceanaObviously, all that I said is true only if you don’t want to eat in a super luxury restaurant! I can remember clearly that during my first visit in the city, it was 2011, I ate a delicious lobster in one of the most famous restaurant in the world and I spent a fortune, almost $ 200.00. But I ate in the Oceana restaurant… and for this reason I accepted it!

In any case, you can eat amazing lobsters without spend a fortune, for example at Chelsea Market, but pretty much everywhere in the town.

Today I’m going to talk to you about one of these restaurants, actually one of my favorite duecajunsea_logo to the location, the food and for the good quality/price relationship.

Today you’ll come with me at Cajun Sea (Lobsters, Crabs & Oyster Bar) at 32W 33rd street between Broadway e 5th avenue, few steps from the Empire State Building, and really close to Herald Square and its shopping attractions (like Macy’s, H&M and the Manhattan Mall).

Although Cajun is a seafood restaurant and bar, you have different options in the menú.

I tested the lunch special menú and the traditional dinneràe menú as well.

The limited time offerings, change during the months, when me and my husband had our lunch at Cajun, there was the special lunch menú: with $ 25.00 except drinks (of course + taxes + tip) we chose between two appetizer’s options (one with crabs one with lobster) and between two options for the main dish (both with lobster) and two desserts.

Our choices were:

Crab cake, lobster soup like appetizers and for main courses, two boiled lobster with boiled potatoes. Unfortunately that day there was only one dessert and it was a kind of “granita” with fruits (actually the dessert was not special).

Of course you have all you need for eating a lobster starting from a big plastic bib and gloves and all the necessary tools.

Starting the happy hour you can choose to sit in the bar and eat all the oysters you want for $ 1.00 each

I had my dinner at Cajun less than one month ago, and I can confirm that the price are good also without the special menú. In that occasion as well, me and my husband choose an appetizer with fried shrimps and calamari and two boiled lobsters. I admit that also the lobster roll looked amazing, but maybe I’ll try it the next time and a Catalana’s cream for dessert.

I know that in the city there are other seafood restaurants better than this, but Cajun for me is one of the best because it was a young place, not too much formal, with good food, good price and good events as well. At last but not least the location is a plus! And for all these reasons Cajun is one of the most popular sea bar in Midtown.

I hope that this post will be useful for those of you who are visiting New York and want to try some seafood without spend a fortune! Let me know in the comment box below if you like this kind of posts, if you had never tried Cajun or if you want to add it to your personal list of restaurant to try in New York City! Please let me know if you know similar restaurants in Manhattan as well, I want to test all of them!

For other personal experiences and suggestions….
