Hello Friends!

Some months ago some our friends visited New York city with their lovely little girl. They wanted to try a typical dishes in some American style restaurants.
We tried together some traditional places, and they really loved the American meat and burgers… but something were missing… They should try the real seafood and fish and chips! For this reason we brought them at Bubba Gump & Shrimps at time square.

If the name is familiar for you it is pretty normal: the restaurant chain is inspired to the film Forrest Gump.
Everything inside the restaurant remembers the scenes of the famous film. For example the first thing the guest see when he comes inside the restaurant is the famous bench.

The service is something special and absolutely funny: the waiters ask some questions about the film to the guests (of course they also help the guest in answering) and if the answer is right, they give to the guest some rewards. In our case the rewards were some candy for our friends lovely child.

A piece of history for understanding how the Bubba Gump & Shrimps was born.

In the film the Bubba Gump and Shrimp born from an idea of Benjamin Buford “Bubba” Blue and Forrest Gump during the Vietnam war. The two friends decided to start a business in shrimps fishing field as soon as they will come back home from the Vietnam. Unfortunately Bubba died during the war, but Forrest didn’t give up the friend’s idea. After he came back home, Forrest joined the national ping pong team and thanks of this team he earned $ 25.000 and with them he bought the first ship (called Jenny). He started catching shrimps and it worked, and eventually the Bubba’s dream come true and Forrest founded the Bubba Gump & Shrimps company.

In the real world the story, of course, is different. The first Bubba Gump & Shrimps restaurant opened in 1995 and the owner was the “Viacom Consumer Product”. But who was the Viacom Consumer product? It was a division of a main company, called Viacom, that owned also the Panamount Picture, the producer of “Forrest Gump”… The circle is closed!
Today Bubba Gump & Shrimps company owns restaurants all over the world, from USA to Japan and Europe and each restaurant has the same format: it’s based on the Forrest Gump film.
The menu offers seafood cooked in different ways, boiled, grilled and of course fried! Indeed the fried shrimps are the cause of the notoriety of the Bubba Gump & Shrimps restaurants.

For Your Information (FYI)

In New York city Bubba Gump & Shrimps is located at 1501 Broadway in the heart of Time Square. From the inside of the restaurant you can enjoy an awesome view of Time Square’s lights.

Reservation is not required but it is well accepted. In any case you will have to wait a little and you can do this in the lobby of the restaurant, at the level street, where is located the gifts shop.
If you are going to visit new York and you plan to visit Time Square as well (and of course you must visit Time Square), I suggest to plan the Square’s visit in the night and to have a dinner at Bubba Gump & Shrimps!
