Sculptures and Decorations for Kids

Hello Friends!

Maybe it is happened to you as well to babysit a kid. It happens to me sometimes and I should admit it is amazing and not an easy job at the same time! When you should babysit a toddler you have to be really carefully about his needs and pay a lot of attention about pretty much everything: where he goes, what he grabs….

I think that it is not more easy to babysit kids 4 to 6 years older.. the main question is: what we can do together? especially if the options not include the TV the answer could be pretty hard!

I really love thinking about new games and activities that we can do together, actually i figured out that I’m good in inventing new games,but among all the activities we made, the kids love mostly these ones who include a creation of something that they can proudly show to mom and daddy.

If it is winter time, my favorite activity is to create some Christmas decorations (here the link to the Christmas section). Now we are in spring time, so I need something different: I thought that Baking soda Sculptures could be a great idea!

Why I use the Baking Soda

The answer is pretty easy: the baking soda is 100% natural, not toxic (and for this reason it fits also with the kids who pus everything in their mouth), it is washable, soft and easy to modelling also for children

What we need for making baking soda modeling clay

2 cups of baking soda;

1 cup of cornstarch;

1 and 1/4 glass of water;

Rolling pin, a pot, baking paper, molds, acrylics colors and ribbons for decorate.

Procedure

I started putting the water in the pot until it was hot (the water shouldn’t boil). When it was really hot i put inside the baking soda and the cornstarch and i mixed the elements carefully. When I obtained a kind of ball I let the ball rest and cool down for few minutes in a closed place.

I put my modeling clay between two sheets of baking paper and with my rolling pin I stretched it. With the molds I cut some figurine. Before the figurines dried I made a little hole which permitted me to insert inside the ribbon.

With another part of the modeling clay I made some sculptures using molds. When the sculptures were completely dried I colored them with acrylics colors.

The last idea is to use the modeling clay for making a kind of painting of our babies feet or hands. For making it I stretched the modeling clay in a rectangle and after that I imprinted the baby’s foot on it. I let it dry and that’s it a perfect gift for grandparents was ready.

The decorations, the figurines and the sculptures have to dry for 1 hour in the oven at 80 celsius degrees (almost 175 fahrenheit degrees) or for 24 hours at ambient temperature.

Here a good idea for spend few lovely hours with ours kids and in the meantime stimulating their abilities, their creativity and curiosity and, also important for turning off the TV!
