Hello Everyone!
In my last post (rice containers) I talked about my wedding’s rice cones, here I show you how I made them! I was looking for something really original so I choosed an uncommon stuff: the Sisal.
Sisal…What is it?
Sisal is a fiber extracted from leaves of Agave sisalana. The most common use of it is for ropes, baskets and carpets’s productions . Often it is treated and colored and in this way, the fiber or the sheets are used by floral designers.
Here’s how I made the cones
- The first step is designer the wedding logo. This was the image you can see in my cones. I used graphics program, but also Office Publisher or Office Word works very well;
- In my file I drew 6 square (approximately 4 inch each side) by extremely light lines. After that I placed my logo in an angle of each square. I printed on A4 ivory sheets and cutted all sections. These are the inside cones.
- I took my sisal roll and unwrapped it. I cutted a square of 4.5 inch per side. I fold it like a cone and I stopped it with a staple. These are the outside cones.
- I put an ivory ribbon through the fiber of the sisal sheet and I made a bow to cover the staple. If your bow are really ugly, you can buy it and stop it on the cone with glue.
- I pushed the paper cone into the sisal one and stopped with another hidden staple.
- I was really satisfied of my results…. so I started the mass production!
Instead the inside paper cone, you can use a cellophane one. The result is really cute.
Don’t waste anything!
The key word is DON’T WASTE ANYTHING! After Cutting my sisal roll had a bunch of sisal unused, but it wasn’t enough for other cones in same size. So I decided to make some little cones in sisal and I placed these on the candy’s table. It was a brilliant idea because all my guests put into this cones some candies and brought these at home like memory.
My Experience
Did I complicated my life with these cones? YES, SURE. Did I have a bunch of time to spend for do these? YES, I HAD! I WAS LUCKY! It wasn’t really easy: Find a huge amount of colored sisal rolls was a little bit difficult; I never worked with sisal before, so I needed some time to become confident with it. Worth it? ABSOLUTELY! All guests loved every sisal details!
