David Gilmour at Madison Square Garden

Hello everybody!

The today post is a little bit different, I want to share with you my experience of 2 nights ago. What did I do that night? I saw the performance of a guy who is a real legend of rock: I was Madison Square Garden for the David Gilmour concert!

Maybe if I ask you who is this guy, some of you don’t remember him… but if I add that he was the guitar player and the singer of Pink Floyd… I’m completely sure that now everybody knows who he is!

David Gilmour Rattle that Lock Tour 2016 Madison Square Garden 2Even though the Pink Floyd stopped to sing together in 1995, they are so amazing and their music is so awesome and also the young people know them, even the ones who are born after the Pink FLoyd break-up. Everybody knows that the English band is one of the most important milestone for the rock and for the music in general. During his long career the british band wrote the history of music, and also changed the meaning of the music itself. With the Pink Floyd the music became a way to share you own opinion! Think about their songs, for understanding how Pink Floyd were and are important for each of us: think about the lyrics and the movie of Another Brick In The Wall for understand how they are a kind of precursors; if you think about David Gilmour Rattle that Lock Tour 2016 Madison Square Garden 1Money you can figure out how actual is their music; at last, think about Whish You Were Here  for understand how this song is a piece of our life! But I don’t want to talk  lot about the band (you can google it and find out other information, i suggest the Pink Floyd Wikipedia Page), I think that there is no enough words for describing the greatness of the band which sold more than 250 million of album!

What I’m going to do in this post is talking about what waiting for you if you bought a ticket for one date of the David Gilmour Tour. In new York there were 3 day ( the first one, the April 10th at Radio Music City Hall, and 2 more days at Madison Square Garden the 11 and 12 of April). The tour started from Canada and US, but soon will arrive in Europe: Poland, Austria, Italy (Rome and Pompeii, I think that the days in Pompeii will be awesome), Germany, France, Belgium and United Kingdom (for more info this is the tour official website).

Although the Tour is for promoting the new album of David Gilmour Rattle That Lock, during the performance there is a lot of space for some Pink Floyd songs.

Here the playlist of the performance:

Between Set one and two there is a little break during which you can appreciate what you have just listened and you can understand that YES the song you just heard is Shine On You Crazy Diamond and YES this old guy 70 years old is absolutely stunning! At the end, when you think that everything is done… he starts play the encore and you  heart really lost a beat with Time and Comfortably Numb….

Here My Impressions

I can start from the location: Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden is located on 7th ave between 31st and 33rd, and it is the stadium of New York Rangers (Hokey Team), of Knicks (Basket team) but a lot of events and performances are performed here, for example Lacrosse match, Wrestling and concert of course. Into the Garden there is a Walk of Fame in recognition of a lot of people in different field who performed many times at MAdison Square Garden: for example Michael Jordan (Basket) Rod Laver (Tennis) Muhammad Ali e Rocky Marciano (Boxing) Elton John (Musician).

For arrive to the Madison Square Garden it is easy, and you can take the subways and stop at Pennsylvania Station (penn Station) one of the five more crowded subway station in New York, but also one of the most characteristic stations.

The first feeling I had when I sat at my spot in Madison Square Garden, was… maybe it is no so huge like it seem from outside! When I realized that here there are at least 20.000 people…I changed my mind!

There are a lot of security measure, like Metal Detector and it is avoid to bring with you food and drink inside the Garden. Actually it is not a big deal because there are a lot of places in which you can buy any kind of food. There is also a guy who pass through the sits and selling pop corns or beverage. At last, but not least, there are some restrictions about cameras and video cameras especially if your camera is big. No problem for the cell phones!

A personal suggestion: DO NOT drink a lot before the concert! Although there are a bunch of restrooms everywhere, during the 20 minutes break there are a very long line for use them and you can lose a part of the performance because you are in line.

Feelings about the performance:

Mr Gilmour is absolutely great! The sound inside the Madison Square Garden was great. In addition to the music, also the lights show and the background lights were wonderful! Especially during “Run Like Hell” and the encore, the game of lights and images are awesome! On the background of the stage there was a big circle in which you can see images from the video clips or real time images of the band during the concert. Indeed there were a big team of cameramen who catched the best moments, faces, and some images of the hands of mr Gilmour on the guitar. You can see that ages are passed from his face or from the skin of his hands, but he was still so amazing when he played the guitars and his voice is really touching!

The audience was really variegate, and you can find young guys 25 years older but also some 60 or more year older guys. I can describe the audience of the like concert “informed audience” really conscious that we were listened a piece of the music history.

Like my husband said at the end of the performance: ” This was one of the thing you will tell to your sons and grand sons, you will say to them that today at Madison Square Garden you listened one of the myth of rock music”.

I hope that with post I infused to you some of the energy that David Gilmour gave to me. If you can don’t miss him and buy a ticket for one day!

Good Rock to everybody!

Stay tuned!
