Genuine Tastes In The Heart Of Rome: MATREM

In these days I was in Rome very often. Although there was only few time for being a tourist, of course I took some amazing pics…. come on who can resist to the beauty of the Eternal City?

By the way today I don’t want to talk about the amazing places in Rome, but about a amazing culinary discover that we done a couple of days ago. I was with my husband and w were looking for a place where have a quick lunch, but we did’t want to eat in a bar… so we found this little place in Piazza Bologna neighbourhood. It was pretty, it had minimal and modern design, so we decided to come inside and try the food.

The MATER bakery & pizza, is located in via delle Province n. 90 corner with via Padova n. 85 (actually I think that there are more than one shop, but I suggest to check in their facebook page on on their website). It has a little size, but it was really comfortable and with a familiar feeling inside. For all the “social addicted customers” Matrem offers a free wifi as well.

The first thing you see entering in Matrem is the huge counter that divides the space in two different areas, one for the customers one for the kitchen. Indeed, behind the counter there are the pizza makers, the bakerist at work. I really fall in love for this detail because in my opinion the possibility to see how the food is prepared give in my mind a clear message: “we have no secret, so we prepare the food in front of you”! Of course this is my own opinion…

What I Love of Matrem

The strength point of Matrem are of course the amazing ingredients and the ways in which they are combined together.

When me and my husband were at Matrem we eat a bunch of pizza… literally! Everything was awesome!

Here what we eat:

  • a slice of white pizza with mortadella of “cinta senese”(it is a special pig from Tuscany), dried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar cream
  • a slice of white pizza with the same mortadella and pistachios;
  • a slice of pizza with cheese (it was ricotta cheese, if I remember right) artichokes and dried tomatoes;
  • a slice of pizza with salmon and cheese;
  • a slice of white pizza with speck ham, pistachios and mascarpone cheese.

The pizza’s toppers are unusual and absolutely amazing and you can taste their genuineness. Also the pizza dough was extraordinary thank to the special yeast (lievito madre) and the long time takes by the leaving process, and of course thanks to the pizza makers! My conclusion? You must try it!

As you know in this blog I suggest only places that I personally tested and I liked. Matrem is one of them, a little space of tranquillity in the heart of a real chaotic city where you can taste amazing tastes and be received from a funny, young and prepared staff.

That’s all for today, you should only plan your visit at Rome and your lunch at Matrem bakery and pizza. I think it will be one of my step each time I will go in Rome! I haven’t yet taste the bread and the sweets as well!
