Oriental perfumes…

Hello Everybody!

After the challenge between Unites States and Japan, (if you have not read that post yet, here the link), the Oriental perfumes are still in my mind… So I decided to cook a traditional Chinese recipe. I was looking for a simply but good taste recipe with some rice, so I chose The Cantonese’s Rice but, as usual my version of it!

Although the recipe is really easy, the taste is awesome and it is also actually quickly to prepare. You can prepare all the ingredients during the time in which the rice is boiling, so No waste of time!

Let’s See How I Made My Cantonese Rice (actually I prepared a veggie version of it).

This is a typical Chinese food, but it is really popular all over the world. I guess everybody at their first time at a chinese restaurant order Cantonese rice! I did it! I think that it happens because Cantonese Rice is the chinese dish more close to european taste and it is a kind of “safe dish”for the beginners of chinese cuisine! This dish is often a side dish for a lot of more strong taste dish, but it is often used like a subsidiary of the bread (as far as I remember, bread is not included in chinese diet). I think also that if you are looking for a light first dish, cantonese Rice it is one of the best choices!

Time to prepare 10 minutes – Time to cooking 30 minutes (it depends form the type of rice you choose)

Ingredients for people:

  • 250 gr of rice;
  • 1 onion;
  • 3 eggs;
  • 250 gr peas;
  • 125 gr in cubes of ham;
  • Oil;
  • salt e pepper.

In the original recipe you have to use the soy sauce, but I really don’t like it, so I skip this ingredient.

Useful Tools:

  • Big pot for cooking the rice;
  • Frying pan  (the best one is a wok)
  • Chopper.

Procedure:

At the beginning, i washed my rice for removing the starch with cold water, and after that i put my rice in the pot with a lot of salted water for cooking it. It is important that you cook the rice “al dente” because you have to cook it again with theCantonese Rice 3 other ingredients later. In the meantime I cooked the peas with some hot water. In a different frying pan I made an omelette with the eggs, and when it was ready I rolled it and I cut it in tiny stripes. I chopped the onion and I put it in the frying pan with some olive oil. When the onion became gold,  I added the peas and the cubes of ham and I cooked for some more minutes. I remove the rice from the stove and I took off the water from it. After that I added the stripes of omelette and the rice in the frying pan and I cook again for a couple of minute.

Here my result!

As I said before, I cooked a veggie version of the recipe. I had no ham at home and I was too lazy for went out and bought it, so I decided to skipped this ingredient too! I also used brown rice because I prefer it instead other kind of rice but, according with the original recipe, you have to use the Basmati rice.

This is my personal version of Cantonese rice in which I removed some ingredients (soy sauce and ham) and I changed also some steps (I used a omelette instead scrambled eggs) because make it more easy for me!

The basic idea was to cook something good but easy and quick to prepare with the only ingredients I already had in my house. I think this recipe is a perfect last minute recipe because in each apartment we always have peas, eggs and rice… and these are the only things you need!

What do you think about my suggested easy healthy, everyday recipe?
