Summer is the best season for spent some time in the balcony or in the backyard with friends and have amazing time. In today’s tutorial I’m going to show you how to create some special lights in a very easy, and super cheap way! Today I’ll show you how to create super cute paper lanterns.

Very often the best solution for our problems are the most easy and obvious, paper lanterns are one of this solutions: they are super easy, super cute and super cheap and everybody loves them!

Let’s see how I made my Paper Lanterns

What you need:

• White paper bags (the paper food’s bags);
• Coarse Salt;
• Glasses
• Short candles.

The first step is to crease a little bit the bag, for trying to obtain a curved shape, and to curl the top for creating cuffs.

When you obtain the desired shape, is time to pour the salt inside the bag, I put almost 300 gr for each lantern. The coarse salt is needed for giving some weight to the lantern and to keep the shape curved, but it is also the best choice because it allow the light to spread gently all around the bag.

Put a glass deeply in the salt, pay attention to choose a proper glass: tall enough for avoid that the candle burns the bag, but at the same time it shouldn’t be higher than the bag.

The last step is to put the candle inside the glass and to light it.

If you want a more useful lantern, you can switch the normal candle with a lemongrass candle that is perfect against the mosquitos.

These lanterns create a very romantic and elegant effect, and they are perfect for each situation. With few further steps you can create different atmospheres only using these paper lanterns. For example: for colored ambient you can color with watercolors the paper bags or you can use colored glasses; if you want something more romantic, you can apply ribbons to the bags… this kind of project has no limit!

I used almost 100 paper lanterns for completing the decoration for the location of my wedding dinner. The place was really particular (it was an ancient castle) and for creating a lot of light spots the paper lanterns appeared like the best solution in term of convenience and elegance. Actually all my guests really loved my paper lanterns!
